House Rules Committee Ranking Republican David Dreier was honored today for his voting record to encourage English first in the workplace, in our voting system, and as a key tenant of the American identity.  Dreier received an “A” from the citizen’s action group U.S.-English for his efforts..

Dreier, GOP Seek Debate on Solutions to Bring Down Price of Gas
Rules Committee Ranking Republican David Dreier and his GOP colleagues are seeking today to have a debate on how to bring down the price of gas and address the concerns of working Americans. It’s been two years since Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) promised a “common sense plan” to lower gas prices, but to date no plan has been put forward and the price of gas has skyrocketed. The House GOP is offering a motion to force a debate in the House on how to bring down the price of gas and request Speaker Pelosi to unveil her “common sense plan.”

Dreier, Colleagues Urge Speaker to Schedule Vote on U.S.-Colombia FTA
Rules Committee Ranking Republican David Dreier and several of his Republican colleagues took the floor of the House last night to discuss the importance of the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and urge the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to stop blocking passage of the agreement.  Speaker Pelosi drew harsh, widespread criticism from across the country last week when she made an unprecedented change to House rules in order to prevent a vote on the Colombia agreement.  Dreier was joined by colleagues from Illinois, Texas, and California, all of whom discussed the economic opportunities workers and farmers in their states would gain from passage of the Colombia FTA.

Dreier Hosts 5th Annual “Road to Employment” Job Fair
Congressman David Dreier hosted the 5th annual “Road to Employment” Job Fair today.  Over 800 job seekers and nearly sixty employers gathered in Rancho Cucamonga to learn about job opportunities and participate in employment workshops.  Dreier’s office teamed with the County of San Bernardino Department of Economic Development and State of California Employment Development Department to put on the annual event.

Dreier Vows to Continue Pursuit of Greater Earmark Reform
Congressman David Dreier vowed today to continue the pursuit of greater earmark reform, despite the refusal of the House Democratic leadership to join House Republicans in an effort to reform the earmarking process once and for all. At their retreat last month, Republicans called on the House leadership to impose an earmark moratorium and appoint a bipartisan, bicameral joint committee to reform the earmark process. Following their own retreat this past weekend, the Democrats have refused to join in the reform efforts.

Dreier Warns Taxpayers About Tax Season Scams
Congressman David Dreier today warned taxpayers to be on the lookout for tax season scams. The Internal Revenue Service recently issued an alert cautioning taxpayers to beware of advance payment scams this tax season. According to the IRS, the scams are being operated using phone calls and emails. In addition to taking advantage of tax filing season, the scams are also seeking to exploit the pending nature of legislation that may issue rebates to millions of Americans. Dreier said taxpayers need to stay vigilant and aware to avoid being victimized.

Dreier Votes to Approve Bipartisan Economic Stimulus Plan
Congressman David Dreier voted today to approve an economic stimulus package that will get rebates into the hands of millions of Americans and keep our economy moving forward. The Economic Stimulus Package, H.R. 5140, was approved by the House with overwhelming bipartisan support, 385-35, with one member voting present.

Dreier Announces Support for Border Fence Reinstatement Legislation
Congressman David Dreier today announced his support for H.R. 5124, the Reinstatement of the Secure Fence Act of 2008. This legislation, which has been introduced by California Representative Duncan Hunter, would require the construction of at least 700 miles of double-layered fencing along the Southern border within 6 months of passage of the bill. Dreier is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 5124.
