Rules Committee Ranking Republican David Dreier and several of his Republican colleagues took the floor of the House last night to discuss the importance of the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and urge the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to stop blocking passage of the agreement. Over 800 job seekers and nearly sixty employers gathered in Rancho Cucamonga to learn about job opportunities and participate in employment workshops. Congressman David Dreier today warned taxpayers to be on the lookout for tax season scams. The Internal Revenue Service recently issued an alert cautioning taxpayers to beware of advance payment scams this tax season. According to the IRS, the scams are being operated using phone calls and emails. In addition to taking advantage of tax filing season, the scams are also seeking to exploit the pending nature of legislation that may issue rebates to millions of Americans. Dreier said taxpayers need to stay vigilant and aware to avoid being victimized.

Congressman David Dreier voted today to approve an economic stimulus package that will get rebates into the hands of millions of Americans and keep our economy moving forward. The Economic Stimulus Package, H.R. 5140, was approved by the House with overwhelming bipartisan support, 385-35, with one member voting present.

Congressman David Dreier today announced his support for H.R. 5124, the Reinstatement of the Secure Fence Act of 2008. This legislation, which has been introduced by California Representative Duncan Hunter, would require the construction of at least 700 miles of double-layered fencing along the Southern border within 6 months of passage of the bill.
