Appropriations Requests: FY 2010

City of Claremont

Project Name: Claremont City Wide Water Infrastructure Improvement Project

Request Amount: $2 million

Project Recipient:  City of Claremont

Address:  207 Harvard Avenue, CA 91711.

Explanation of the Request:
Reline the city’s sewer infrastructure with a new, innovative sewer lining technology.  Much of the city’s aging infrastructure is over 80 years old.  They have identified the most immediate areas of need in the city to protect against seepage, root and vegetation intrusion and further deterioration from chemicals and blockages.  The city has pursued new technology that would allow a trenchless pipelining method to rehabilitate the existing clay pipe sewer system using 500-1.10 Type “A” Folded and Reformed PVC Pipe Liner technology.  This new innovative approach promoted by the Environmental Protection Agency, while being less intrusive to the residents of the city, will help shore up old lines that are more susceptible to intrusion and failure, allow the improvements to be made in access-challenged areas and preserve the existing system avoiding exponentially higher costs for rehabilitation and repair.
