2009 Surface Transportation Reauthorization Requests

57/60 Confluence Project

The Cities of Industry and Diamond Bar jointly request the 57/60 Confluence Project for $155 million.  This interchange may be one of the most poorly planned, bottleneck-causing interchanges in the entire region.  The “Valley-shaped” terrain forced the construction of the freeways into a common alignment for two miles around Grand Avenue causing a multitude of traffic weaving between the two freeways and the on and off ramps from the Grand Avenue Interchange.  The project includes design to reconfigure the Grand Avenue interchange and significantly reduce the traffic weaving by building dedicated on and off bypass lanes, replacing the Grand Avenue over-crossing with a wider, longer structure and improvements to the 57/60 mainline.
