Explanation of the Request:
Currently, upon deployment of naval mines, the operational commander loses the ability to control them. The Magneto-Inductive Remote Command and Control Demonstration (RECO) for the QUICKSTRIKE Mines project, which is part of the Future Years Defense Plan beginning in fiscal year 2011, will develop wireless command and control for the QUICKSTRIKE family of mines. This will provide the operational commander with remote command and control of the weapons in challenging sea environments, providing a flexible, precision combat system and enhancing our ability to protect U.S. military personnel and interests. It is my understanding that the funding would be used to accelerate the research, development, test and evaluation phase of the RECO mine project to conduct early evaluation of enabling technologies.
