Appropriations Requests: FY 2010

Tanner Research, Inc.

Project Name: Lens-Less Dual-Mode Micro Seeker for Medium-Caliber Guided Projectiles

Request Amount:  $4.9 million

Project Recipient:  Tanner Research, Inc.

Address:  825 South Myrtle Avenue, Monrovia, CA 91016

Explanation of the Request:
Rockets, artillery and mortars (RAMs) are growing threats to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The Army’s Armament, Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) is working to defend against these attacks through the Extended Area Protection & Survivability (EAPS) program which fires medium-caliber projectiles to destroy the incoming threats.  Tanner Research is developing for ARDEC the Lens-Less Dual-Mode Micro Seeker, a highly accurate guided projectile to protect U.S. troops against incoming RAM threats.  It is my understanding that the funding would be used to continue the development of advanced sensor technology to be outfitted on a small steerable projectile utilized to protect US troops against incoming RAMs.
