Dreier, House Honor California State University System

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) voted for a resolution to congratulate the California State University (CSU) system on its 50th anniversary. Dreier co-authored and supported H. Res. 1117 which commends the CSU system for reaching its 50th anniversary during the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. The resolution was unanimously approved by the House on Wednesday, March 3.

“The California State University system has awarded nearly 2.5 million undergraduate and graduate degrees over its 50 year history,” Dreier said. “It is only fitting that Congress recognize the importance of the CSU system to California and our nation by providing quality higher education opportunities to so many Americans. The CSU system is critical to educating our nation’s youth as they enter the workforce and compete in this 21st century economy.”

The CSU system annually awards more than 91,000 degrees to students throughout California. It offers more than 1,800 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in 357 subject areas at its 23 campuses and 7 off-campus centers statewide. Almost 433,000 students and 44,000 faculty and staff are members of the CSU system, making it the largest state university system in the nation. In California, CSU alumni comprise about 10 percent of the entire workforce and more than half of the state’s educators.

“It is my sincere hope that the CSU system continues to have great success over the next 50 years and beyond,” Dreier said.
