Dreier-Sponsored Measure Opposing Drug Cartels, Honoring Bobby Salcedo Passes House

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA) voted today in favor of H.Res. 1032, a resolution urging cooperation between the United States and Mexico in the ongoing effort to eliminate drug cartels. Specifically, H.Res. 1032 expresses the sense of the House of Representatives that the U.S. should continue to assist the government of Mexico in fighting the drug cartels and curbing violence against U.S. and Mexican citizens, both in the U.S. and abroad. Dreier, who has worked closely with Congresswoman Judy Chu (D- El Monte, CA) on the resolution, is a cosponsor of H.Res. 1032, which was unanimously approved by the House today.

“Our law enforcement officials must work hand in hand with Mexican authorities to combat and eliminate the drug violence that has dramatically impacted both our countries,” Dreier said. “It’s not just billions of dollars worth of drugs coming across the U.S.-Mexican border. Violence is crossing the border, too. This violence is harming citizens in both countries and it must be stopped.”

In addition to urging cooperation between Mexico and the U.S. in fighting the ongoing drug war, H.Res. 1032 honors the life of El Monte resident and City School Board Member Agustin Roberto “Bobby” Salcedo who was brutally murdered, along with five other men, while visiting family in Mexico last year. “The El Monte community lost an outstanding family man, friend, colleague, and educator when Bobby Salcedo was murdered,” Dreier said. “His death served as a horrible reminder that drug related violence must be confronted in a significant way. It’s my hope that with continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border, the individuals who committed this senseless crime against Mr. Salcedo and his family will soon be brought to justice.”
