7th Annual “Road to Employment” Job Fair Brings Job Seekers, Employers Together

Dreier:  “Working together, we can get this economy back on track”

SAN DIMAS, CA – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) hosted the 7th annual “Road to Employment” Job Fair today in an effort to help those seeking employment find opportunities with local and national employers looking to hire. Working with the Workforce Investment Board of San Bernardino County, the City of Rancho Cucamonga and the State of California Employment Development Department, Dreier once again sought to bring job-seekers and employers together to create job opportunities in the Inland Empire. Over fifty companies looking to fill more than 2,000 positions participated in this year’s job fair.

“The positive turnout and participation in today’s Job Fair is a testament both the challenges that exist and the opportunities we have to turn our difficult economic circumstances around,” Dreier said. “The unemployment rate is much too high and people are hurting. There is little doubt that the Inland Empire is struggling in this challenging economic environment. At the same time, this region has a number of advantages that we must tap into, including a well-educated workforce; a world-class system of colleges; universities and vocational schools; a wide diversity of businesses and an expansive infrastructure system that connects us to the rest of the country and world. Because of these factors, I believe that this area is poised to again be an engine of economic growth. I am firmly committed to doing all I can get this economy growing again and helping our friends and neighbors in need get back on their feet.”

Among the companies participating today were local governments, healthcare providers, and staffing and retail firms including Victor Valley Community Hospital, Verizon Wireless, Target, Los Angeles Police Department, Securitas Security, Time Warner Cable, Coca Cola Enterprises, Double Tree Hotel, New York Life, and Farmers Business Development Center.

Job Fair participants also had the opportunity to participate in workshops that provided information and resources designed to improve job-seeking skills. Additionally, the Job Fair provided information on job training programs available in the area. Dreier, who partnered with the City of Rancho Cucamonga, the Workforce Investment Board of San Bernardino County, the State of California Employment Development Department, and the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness to put on the event, said the effort to assist individuals seeking employment must continue. “Forums like the Job Fair are so critical to bringing job seekers and potential employers together. They are also a positive resource for individuals looking to improve and expand their skills. Moving forward, I will continue working with my partners at the local and state level in an effort to help people get back to work.”
