WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA) voted today for H. Res. 679, a resolution honoring the goals of the American Legion and recognizing American Legion Day and its 90th anniversary. H. Res. 679, which was cosponsored by Congressman Dreier, was approved unanimously by the House of Representatives today.
“The American Legion has been proudly serving our nation for 90 years,” Dreier said. “I am pleased to honor the men and women who fought for American ideals around the world, and who today continue their service in our local communities through the Legion’s programs assisting disabled veterans as well as their work with multiple youth organizations.”
Receiving their Federal charter on September 16, 1919, the American Legion supports a broad array of programs that now are now part of the nation’s fabric. The Legion is best known for providing assistance to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and military families. The organization’s nearly three million Legionnaires also support a wide variety of community organizations, from the Boy Scouts to American Legion baseball.
There are American Legion posts throughout the 26th District of California, including Montrose Post 288, San Marino Posts 239 and 381, Arcadia Post 247, Monrovia Post 44, Covina Post 755, San Dimas Post 475, Claremont 78, Upland Post 73 and Rancho Cucamonga Post 835.
