Dreier Seeks Help for Small Businesses

Letters to President, Speaker Focus on Job Creation, Expansion of Existing Benefits

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas), a member of the House GOP Economic Recovery and Healthcare Solutions Groups, is seeking help for small businesses and the people they employ.  In separate letters to President Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi this week, Dreier joined other House GOP Leaders in asking the President and Speaker to consider specific proposals that will help small businesses keep more of what they earn, hire more workers, and provide expanded benefits for their existing employees.

“With unemployment still rising, we clearly need to do more to help small businesses keep the workers they have and hopefully hire more.  Small businesses are the engine of job creation, not the government,” Dreier said.  “By reaching out to President Obama and Speaker Pelosi, it is our hope that we can facilitate some bipartisan action that will help spur real job creation.  There are simple things we can do, and they don’t involve more wasteful government spending.  The American people need us to work together to solve our nation’s challenges.”

The proposals put forward in the letter were developed by the House GOP Economic Recovery and Healthcare Solutions Groups.  They include: allowing small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income, freeing up funds for small businesses to retain and hire new employees; letting small businesses join together to purchase health insurance for their workers the way large businesses and labor unions do; enacting genuine legal reform to reduce costs for small businesses; lowering taxes for all Americans by reducing the current 15 percent rate to 10 percent and reducing the 10 percent rate to 5 percent, providing an immediate increase in income to every taxpaying family in America; expanding health savings accounts to provide additional flexibility to small businesses in providing healthcare to their employees; and increasing the net operating loss carry back from 2 to 5 years to provide struggling employers with additional resources to keep their doors open.
