2009 Surface Transportation Reauthorization Requests

City of Arcadia

The City of Arcadia requested two projects: the Santa Anita Avenue Grade Separation project for $4 million and the Huntington Drive Capacity Improvements project for $2.196 million.  Once again, the critical importance of improving public safety while reducing congestion and increasing efficient traffic flow is evident in the need to grade separate the Union Pacific Rail Road from Santa Anita Avenue.  This intersection alone has 34,000 vehicle crossings per day in addition to two public transit bus routes which have to compete with freight trains running at up to ten minute headways in each direction.  In addition, traffic capacity improvements to Huntington Drive are critical due to the high levels of congestion on this road which runs parallel to I-210 and I-10, often serving as an alternate route to the gridlocked freeway for the entire region.  Huntington Drive is a major arterial in the San Gabriel Valley that desperately needs the capacity improvements in order to facilitate traffic flow, improve signal synchronization and reduce delays and vehicle idling emissions.
